Wellington Office Programmes

The Wellington Office is coordinating a number of exciting programmes for promoting peace in the community, nationally and internationally including:
Peace Cities, encouraging cities to reduce violence and support peace in their communities
Ministry for Peace , encouraging greater collaboration between government and civil society in the promotion of peace through the establishment of a Ministry for Peace.
Youth Diversity and Peace programmes, helping youth resolve conflicts and become engaged in peacemaking in their communities and in the world. Includes:
- Creating a Harmonious Society, training youth in non-violence and human rights.
- Nuclear Zephyr, youth exploring New Zealands nuclear free legacy and its relevance today and expressing this through theatre.
The Babel project, engaging youth from diverse cultures in conflict resolution, bridge-building and art.
- Schools Outreach Programme, taking peace education into the schools through classes, teacher workshops and teaching resources
- Building Human Rights Communities in Education, assisting schools, early childhood education centres and other education settings to affirm, educate and model the human rights of all (in partnership with the Human Rights Commission, Office of the Childrens Commissioner, Amnesty International and Global Education Centre)
Summer City Programme, cooperative games for children plus peaceful parenting information for parents
Nuclear Abolition, working with parliamentarians, Nobel Peace Laureates, civil society leaders and government officials in New Zealand and around the world to build an international movement to abolish and eliminate nuclear weapons (in conjunction with Aotearoa Lawyers for Peace, the Parliamentary Network for Nuclear Disarmament, and Abolition 2000)
