Mayors for Peace

Mayors for Peace, an international network of over 1500 cities, was established by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the two Japanese cities destroyed by nuclear weapons in 1945.

Mayors for Peace has called on governments to commence negotiations on a treaty that would provide for the verified elimination of existing arsenals and would prevent any country or non-State actor from developing nuclear weapons. Such a treaty could be completed by 2010 and all nuclear weapons eliminated by 2020.
